My Tiny Self

Leaning over the water’s edge
the neatly folded paper in my hand
I set it on the surface, giving it a nudge
then watch as it slowly drifts away.

A summer breeze catches my boat
and I think of foreign lands.
I think of the monsters on the sea
and the battles my boat will withstand.

Imagining myself as the tiny captain,
my tiny men hurry about the deck
I shout out orders over the roar of the sea
Raise the sails, hoist the anchor, bring her about!

I am off on a wonderful adventure
and I wonder if my tiny self
will ever see these lands again.
