Snowfall

Crystalline ice
droplets of water,
falling by the millions,
mercilessly from the sky.
It has been snowing for days
and the only thing visible out the window
is the dense cold white.

Each flake
piled upon the next,
building a wall
that would keep us here
in front of the fire
sipping our cocoa
forever.

The wind whips the fresh powder
over the windows
building drifts
that would barricade us in even longer.

Not knowing where the shovel is,
I find that I don’t mind.
Knowing I have nowhere I need to go,
there couldn’t be a more beautiful winter morn.
