I grew up,
too afraid to speak up,
to stand for myself,
anger building,
resentment.
I know there was love
but love is not fair
and love is not equal.
I slowly conformed
trying to change
until I became
something different from me.
So I stand here now
silently screaming,
pulling my hair,
following the script,
the role I must play.
Still afraid to speak up
to stand for myself.
Afraid that the one
I used to be
is lost
forever
in silence.
